Common locations of Endometriosis Lesions

Endometriois lesions mostly exist in the pelvis ,but sometime can be outsdie the pelvis ,mainly the abdomin and less commonly the diaphrgm.

Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in places where it doesn’t belong. These growths can show up in several common areas:

Inside the pelvis (most common)

  • Ovaries – can form cysts often called “chocolate cysts.”

  • Fallopian tubes – may affect how eggs travel.

  • Outer surface of the uterus – not inside, but on the outside lining.

  • Ligaments behind the uterus – can cause deep pelvic or back pain.

  • Pelvic lining (Peritonium) – the thin layer covering the inside of the pelvis.this is the most commonly involved Tissue

Bowel and bladder

  • Rectum and lower intestine – may cause pain with bowel movements or constipation.

  • Bladder or urinary tract – can lead to pain when urinating or feeling like you need to go often.

Other, less common areas

  • Diaphragm (near the lungs) – can cause shoulder or chest pain, especially during periods.

  • Surgical scars (like C-section scars) – may cause pain or swelling in the scar.

  • Rarely, the lungs or other distant areas

Simple way to think about it

Endometriosis most often stays in the pelvis, where it can affect nearby organs like the bowel and bladder, and in rare cases, even areas outside the pelvis. That’s one of the reasons why symptoms can vary widely from person to person.
