What Is Endometriosis ?

Endometriosis exact origin is not known, many theories exist ,probably more than one pathological process are involved

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (womb) grows in places where it shouldn't be — like on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other organs in the belly.

Here's a simple way to think about it:

Every month, the lining inside your uterus builds up and then sheds during your period. In endometriosis, similar tissue grows outside the uterus — but it still behaves the same way: it builds up and tries to shed every month. The problem is, this tissue has nowhere to go, so it gets trapped, causing inflammation, pain, and over time, scar tissue.

Think of it like this: Imagine wallpaper paste ending up on the outside of the walls instead of inside — it sticks to things it shouldn't, causes a mess, and is very hard to clean up.

Common symptoms include:

·         Very painful periods

·         Pelvic pain even outside of periods

·         Pain during sex

·         Difficulty getting pregnant

·         Fatigue and bloating

Key facts to know:

·         It affects roughly 1 in 10 women of reproductive age

·        Its Exact Origin is not known ,However many theories exist but not universally accepted by all the experts.

·         It is a chronic (long-term) condition, but it can be managed with treatment

·         It can only be definitively diagnosed through a surgical procedure called a laparoscopy

If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, it's worth speaking with a doctor — endometriosis is often underdiagnosed because the pain is sometimes dismissed as "just bad periods."

"We do not need to wait for a cure to do better. We can do better today — with proper imaging, skilled surgeons, early referrals, and the simple radical act of believing women when they say they are in pain."
